of soaring and thuds

“When I think something nice is going to happen I seem to fly right up on the wings of anticipation; and then the first thing I realize I drop down to earth with a thud. But really, Marilla, the flying part is glorious as long as it lasts…it’s like soaring through a sunset. I think it almost pays for the thud.”

-Anne of Green Gables

I’ve always resonated with Anne’s approach and not Marilla’s of “sensibly walking along the ground without soaring or thuds.” As much as I might wish with all my might to be a Marilla, I am an Anne. which is why each month, even knowing the astronomical odds against me getting pregnant, I hope.

And hope, I’ve come to discover is just the worst best thing.

If you’re currently on your TTC (trying to conceive) journey, then you know just how wonderful and awful hope can be. Of course at the end of the day no one wants to live without hope, but man would it make life easier sometimes.
